A note on closed systems: Visit Wikipedia for information on open and closed systems. Some brands use a backflow filter instead of a backflow protector. A filter, by definition, allows some matter to pass through. In the case of backflow filters, external air is pushed in and out through the filters during expression. As it is pushed in, particles are caught by the filter and it prevents them from entering the breast pump motor. However, when the air is pushed back out, there is the potential for some of these particles to be pushed back into the collected breastmilk. This would then make the breast pump, by definition, not a closed system.

Best portable breast pump
I have the Unimom Forte which is the hospital grade breast pump but I was looking for something smaller as we were going to be travelling. I had the Medela maxi swing but the suction power was pitiful so I was hesitant to buy the Unimom Allegro. However best choice ever. I do recommend buying the 2nd breast shield and bottle kit to make it a double pump to save time. This is only because I exclusively express. The single works just as well. As with all unimom it is easy to clean and easy to operate. The price is really good too.

Works well
Initially I wasnt sure about this pump, as has quite a few parts to it, compared with the Medela mini electric pump. So more to clean etc. However after using it does pump effectively and quickly once it gets going.

Fantastic
I have been using this pump for a week now it took some getting used to pumping but now I can do it one handed with very little discomfort while baby feeds from other side. When I first started I was only getting 30 mls now I can get 90 for just one express a day. Thank you for recommending this fantastic pump.

Powerful and portable
I'm really happy with my Unimom Allegro pump. I read a lot of reviews before making a decision to buy one and I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm back working part time and this little gem is just what I need to express for my baby when she's at daycare.

WOULDN'T CHANGE
I find my UNIMOM ALLEGRO ELECTRIC BREAST PUMP easy to put together, use comfortably on my breasts and wash without too many parts each time I use it. I would never change now that I have this make and model!!! Thank you for making my busy family life easier.

I just wanted to let you know it arrived first thing this morning and so far fantastic! We spoke last week about this vs medela mini and I'd say you undersold it. This pump is much quieter, gentler and efficient than the medela!

Very comfy and effective
I find this pump very efficient and easy to use. Changing the level of suction is simple and it is comfortable. It is a little noisy but its a very small price to pay for a pump that is great value for money :)
